A note from Katie ⟁⟁⟁

As many of you know, working on Pictal has been a labor of love over several years now. It has been a far-ranging journey, one of copious highs and lows.

I took part in accelerators, grappled with business models, prepped to raise money (and then decided not to), seriously burned out twice, got advice from hundreds of people, and finally realized the answers must come from within.

Way back in 2019, Pictal won the audience choice award at a local pitch competition by a landslide. (I held aloft an enormous novelty check, as I always dreamed of doing.) More recently, along my fundraising journey, multiple potential investors said things like, “I want this for myself, but how are you going to be a billion dollar company?”

The signs have been here for years. Visual health storytelling resonates with people, and it’s finally time to bring it to more folks – individual people, to start – who can benefit from it.

Now allow me to address some of your questions.

Why memberships?

The people who need Pictal most desperately usually do not feel heard or seen. They feel alone with their often-invisible symptoms.

We’ve seen that being part of a supportive, creative community gives people strength and helps them feel heard by their peers, as they navigate their way toward healing.

We’re bundling together the Pictal App, community and events so members can:

  • Tell their complex story visually

  • Own and update their story anytime

  • Be heard, seen and believed

  • Connect and learn from other patients

  • Have opportunities for self-discovery through creative workshops and events

Why now?

  • The Pictal App and community are already providing value to early users, and we want to get them into people’s hands as soon as possible.

  • We’re still 100% self-funded. Memberships will help us cover our costs and continue to evolve our product and offering.

  • Life is short.

Is this for me?

The people who find Pictal most helpful are often:

  • Tired of repeating their story

  • Still looking for a diagnosis or proper treatment

  • Dealing with a complex history and hoping to understand it better

  • Overwhelmed and need help prioritizing

  • Planning for an upcoming appointment and concerned about using the time well

Sound like you? We think you’ll get a lot of value from a Pictal membership.

Can healthcare providers join?

  • We don’t yet have a provider-specific membership, but…

  • If you’d like to refer patients to Pictal, we can set you up with an account so you can see and help manage your patients' timelines. Contact us to learn more.

How can I support Pictal?

  • Many of you have offered to help in the past, and responded to our ‘how can you help?’ surveys. We have not always known how to best harness your energy and excitement, but we have always been humbled by it.

  • Memberships are the best way to support us right now, if that is within your means.

  • Share our Join page on social media.

And PS:

Huge thank you to the folks who helped us get here…

  • Chris Zamierowski, especially, who keeps showing up and working on the Pictal App - Go Chris

  • Sally Buta, steadfast coach and advisor

  • Other advisors (and friends) who helped Pictal over large spans of time: Leah Schulz, Reed Perry, Amy Heymans, Sam Roach-Gerber

  • Folks who have tested our prototypes, product and community

  • Everyone on our email list, who’s stuck with us and continued to share their enthusiasm
